Starting school is one of the biggest
steps towards independence your child will make,
but the jump from a safe home environment to a large,
noisy building full of unfamiliar people and new
routines can be overwhelming. 'Why am I starting
school?' helps children who are in their first
school year or preparing to start school. The unique
blend of entertainment, reassurance and education
informs and reassure young listeners, helping them
to settle into school happily.
The highly entertaining story has
memorable characters and includes the popular children's
songs, 'Wheels on the bus', 'Once I caught a fish
alive' and 'The ABC song' - all sung by children.
Young listeners will join Jupe, a young orang-utan
living in the jungle as he discovers he has to start
school. Jupe hates his uniform and at first he doesn't
like Palm Tree Primary at all. It's big and noisy
and the days are far too long! His eyes feel heavy
at story-time, he doesn't want to talk to Ms Elephant,
his teacher, and he won't even play with the other
children. Jupe has lots of adventures including
helping a baboon with a bad knee and learns that
Ms Elephant is very kind...
